BC Timber Sales
BC Timber Sales is an independent organization within the BC Ministry of Forests and Range that develops Crown timber for auction.
BCTS has planning responsibilities similar to holders of major forest tenures. BCTS must prepare and get approval for a forest stewardship plan that will guide timber harvesting development.
BCTS has 12 business areas across the province of which two have operations in the Bulkley Valley:
- The Skeena Business Area is based in Terrace and includes the Kispiox Timber Supply Area surrounding the Hazeltons.
BCTS Skeena has a Forest Stewardship Plan for Kispiox and Cranberry Timber Supply Areas – Skeena Stikine Forest District. The portion of the plan that is within the Bulkley Valley is referred to as the Suskwa watershed within the Kispiox Forest Development Unit.
- The Babine Business Area is based in Burns Lake and includes the Morice Timber Supply Area (Houston) and the Bulkley Timber Supply Area (Smithers).
The Business Area websites also have timber sale schedules that list the planned sales. Currently, you have to visit their office to view a map of planned sales.
