How to Use the Comments Feature

Valley Vision needs your knowledge, your opinions and suggestions so we put a comment box on each page.

Comments are not automatically posted. Every comment is first reviewed by the webmaster or editor.

How it works:

1. Fill in the boxes

Every comment needs a name so that readers know who said what, especially if there is an ongoing discussion. Real names add credibility. If you want to be anonymous, it is OK to use an alias.

Emails are requested so that the moderator can check on facts offered or seek clarification. Your email will not be posted on the website unless you specifically request it. If you wish anonymity, you can put an X in the email box but realize that doing so leaves the moderator with no abilty to follow up with you if there is any question about the appropriateness of your comment.

If you want to get a little fancy, use the formatting codes listed when you click on the Textile Help link near the bottom of the comment box.

2. The Submit button is unavailable, so hit the Preview button.

Clicking on Preview is the first step to submitting your comments. The page is re-freshed with a preview of what your comment would look like if the moderater approves and posts it. You may have to scroll down the page to see your comment displayed just above the comment box. Your comment has not been posted yet and won’t be until the webmaster/editor views and approves it. If you like, you can revise your comment before proceeding.

3. The Submit button is now available, so hit it.

The page will be refreshed again, but this time without the previewed comments or the comment box – just a thank you message.

4. Leave the rest up to Valley Vision

The moderator will be notified that your comment exists and will do one of the following:

  • post the comment on the webpage because it contains content or opinions that are intended to be shared with others,
  • treat the comment as a message to the webmaster (i.e. no need to post it on the webpage), or
  • delete the comment if it is inappropriate or spam.

The Preview-Submit-Thankyou routine is a little weird but necessary to prevent automatic spam. If you tried it and it still seems confusing, let us know. Better yet, suggest how to improve the way Valley Vision collects input.

Try it out. Testing is OK here.
