About Valley Vision

What is Valley Vision?

Valley Vision links residents, planners and developers of B.C.‘s Bulkley Valley with planning information, planning processes and with each other. offers a user-friendly portal to Bulkley Valley planning activities and a repository for planning-related knowledge and opinions.

Why is Valley Vision needed?

Residents of the Bulkley Valley are regularly offered opportunities to participate in land planning processes hosted by municipal, regional and provincial agencies. Private development proposals and “bottom-up” planning initiatives also arise from time to time. Valley Vision offers help in navigating these plans and processes. Valley Vision facilitates information flow and communication among residents, planners, developers and researchers.

What is Valley Vision trying to do?

Valley Vision is supporting people to work toward a comprehensive vision for the Bulkley Valley’s future. More specifically, it is:

  • Providing easy access to relevant information about developing sustainable communities and economies in the Bulkley Valley.
  • Recovering results of previous planning efforts and preventing loss of input from current planning activities.
  • Encouraging public engagement in planning processes by ensuring that public input becomes part of an ongoing, cumulative planning process.
  • Highlighting relevant research and other sources of information that can be used to protect and foster stewardship of environmental and social values.
  • Serving as a forum for expressing the community’s long-term vision.
  • Facilitating research that will contribute to natural resource planning and management in the Bulkley Valley.
  • Fostering cross-jurisdictional coordination of planning among communities, towns, regional districts, and provincial agencies.
  • Facilitating the monitoring of plans in force.

Who runs Valley Vision?

  • Contributing Sponsors and Donors provide financial support that sustains the basic operation of the website.
  • The Bulkley Valley Centre for Natural Resources Research & Management (BV Research Centre) is the website custodian and handles basic administration. BV Research Centre’s involvement is consistent with their role in advancing public understanding of sustainable management of natural resources.
  • The Valley Vision Steering Committee establishes policies for the website and provides strategic direction.
  • The Webmaster has a contract with BV Research Centre to update news and moderate content consistent with the website’s policies.
  • Volunteers give direction for the evolution of the site and provide new content and enhanced features.
  • Researchers, agencies and/or business may fund notices or projects under contract.
  • Website users leave comments to suggest new information or offer their opinions.

The web site is and will always be a work in progress. It relies on support and input of many to fill in gaps and articulate a future that is as good as or better than the one we are currently enjoying.

How is content controlled?

The Webmaster ensures that content published in the main body of each Valley Vision page follows a neutral point of view policy to represent information fairly, proportionately and without bias; similar to Wikipedia’s NPOV policy.
Comments appended to a Valley Vision page can be either NPOV content or personal opinions. Opinions that appear to be disrespectful or significantly off-topic will not be posted.
